Sure Jones was the initial impetus, but I think everyone can agree its been Jagger/Richards overall that was the magic from Tell Me to One More Shot.
Let's rephrase that a bit...
Sure Jones was the initial impetus, but I think everyone can agree some are under the mistaken impression that its been Jagger/Richards overall that was the magic from Tell Me to One More Shot.
As Sway said, "no Jones, no Stones". And I'll add this: in the 60s, Brian's popularity was challenged only by Mick. He was on the cutting edge from both a fashion and music standpoint. He experimented. He was a natural focal point. All the teen mags of the day bear this out.
All this to say that not only did Brian form the band and kept it going in the early days when the others were just about ready to pack it in, he also helped it become bigger in the 60s through who he was, what he played and what he contributed to the songs.
To dismiss him as marginal or, worse, to write him off completely, is blatantly unfair. Obviously the Glimmers can do as they please but fans do not have to follow in their footsteps. Kudos to Bill for speaking the truth! And speaking up!
