I just don't care for a lot of Paul's work, but "Hey Jude" is one of his few that nail it on the head in a big way for me. He's so often chasing after unrepentant displays of pure love and compassion, but only now and then does it come off as both meaningful and fun, never mind as an achievement.

Not that he's untalented, but Paul's goal seems more often to be clever than to "bring the truth," which is perfectly fine, but as we all know, this has resulted in a great deal of criticism over his solo career and keeps many at a great distance from his music. When the other guy you began writing songs with is John Lennon, comparisons are sadly inevitable.
