We enter week 667 of our Stones poll with this new question: What Stones song contains the best Bass Guitar? A good question that has never been asked in all the weeks of running this weekly poll. Yes, we did ask several years ago for the best performance of the Stones long time former bassist, Bill Wyman, but never this question for best bass overall.
Bill, IMO, is one of the best bass players in the business, yet I’ve realized for years some of my favorite bass parts in Stones songs weren’t laid down by Bill, but by Keith. I was also told years ago by a friend who plays bass, perhaps that’s because guitar players play bass in the same way they play their six strings, so their bass playing stands out more as it’s sounds more like a riff than a true bass sound. He claimed that most 6 string guitarists lack the true skills and feel that it takes to play like a true, pure bassist, therefor their bass playing in the end all sounds the same. Well, I don’t know for sure if that’s true, but I can at least understand what he was getting at by that.
I have listed close to 50 songs to vote on. I went with the tunes I felt sound the best, bass wise. If you feel a song or two is missing from the list, then let me know ASAP (by Tuesday the latest) and I’ll add it to the poll’s list of songs.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: What is the best Acoustic Guitar heard in a Stones song? First, I should note that I was mistaken last week when I said we never asked this question before, as we did, way back in March of 2002, and boy, were the results totally different this time around! I’ll get to that in a bit, but…..
The final vote tally from this question sent a message to me; you fans dig a good question (something the Stones poll lacks in some weeks, after so many years of trying to come up with a new question each week), but I clearly see that more of you will vote when a good question is presented. I could see the nice response in the poll numbers late Friday nite, and it inspired me to work on this week’s bass question in the middle of that nite so it would be ready to implement tonight.
So of course, with well over 500 votes in, we ended up at the close of this poll with a two way tie for first between “No Expectations”, Acoustic Slide Guitar by Brian Jones and Acoustic Rhythm Guitar by Keith Richards, and “Wild Horses”, Acoustic Guitars by Keith Richards and Mick Taylor, both with 6% of the vote. The next spot in the polling also saw a tie, between “2000 Man”, Acoustic Guitar by Keith Richards, and “Angie”, Acoustic Guitars by Keith Richards and Mick Taylor, pulling in 4.7%. So I’ll guess that we will have to wait till next Monday morning at 1201 AM (EST) to conduct a run-off poll to find out this time around which Stones song contains the best Acoustic Guitar.
Now, getting back to 2002 when we last asked this question, the top pick from then was “Street Fighting Man”, with the guitar playing by Keith, yet in last week’s poll that choice finished tied for fifth place! We have rerun several Stones polls in the last few years, and almost every single time that we did, the final results were almost identical to the first time we asked the same question, making me think it was a waste of time to ask any question again, even years later. But clearly, at least this time around, that wasn’t the case.

Now on to week 309 of the Classic Rock Poll, where the question is: What is the best Rock song about the morning? Perhaps you saw this question coming, after we asked about songs of the night in last week’s poll. One thing for sure, there are a ton more rock songs about the nightlife than about events that take place in the morning. In fact, just one week of questions is all we will need to answer this new question. Still, there are some very cool songs to choose from.

Last week’s Rock question was: What is the best Rock song about the night, or night life? (Part 3 of 3) “Moonlight Mile” by The Stones was the top pick with 7.2%, second was “Night Moves” by Bob Seger, at 6.8%, and third place went to “A Hard Day's Night” by The Beatles, with 6.4%.
You can check out the full, final results from this poll here. Or, view the final top ten results from this poll, and other polls, at the brand new Top Ten Lists Page, 7.
Okay, finally to the Beatles weekly poll, where it’s week 62, and we ask: What is your favorite Beatles song written by by Paul McCartney? (Part 3 of 3) We have listed the top 21 songs picked from Parts 1 and 2 to choose from in Part 3.

In last week’s Beatle’s poll, we asked: What is your favorite Beatles song written by John Lennon (Part 3 of 3)? . This turned out to also be a very popular question too for our poll page. “A Day in the Life”, saw 7.5% of the votes for the top pick, with “Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)”, the song I voted for, placing at 6.9%, and third place went to “In My Life” at 5.9%. So it appears from the top 3 picks that we loved John’s softer, mellow side, than his zany, wild side. Actually for myself, I loved both sides of Lennon.

Regardless of which poll you voted in, be it only one - or all three, I thank you for taking a part in the voting process!
