RE: RE: RE: It is called Soccer in the US

Perhaps its just what it is: real football isn't for the USA, American football isn't for Europeans.

Yes, keep the insults coming Teiz, maybe in part us Americans do not want to accept your sport because of that kind of rude talk? Our sport is as real as it gets, not to mention, much more exciting to watch and overall a much more manly game than your form of football.

But just because different countries use some words differently, don't mean they should be made fun of, or their sports, either. If you want to defend your sport as being better, go ahead, but don't say another sport isn't "real" just because you don't understand it.

BTW, there is nothing wrong what so ever with the word "soccer". Heck, it was the English - who invented the sport, who also came up with the name "soccer" too. I'll note, it is called soccer in a few other countries besides the US, as you must know. Plus, us Americans don't make fun of those in Europe who call our football, "gridiron". In America, that is what the field it is played on is called, not the sport itself.

I would go as far as saying that American football isn't the best name for our great and much more exciting sport, but I didn't name it. "Throwball", or even something like "tackelball" would make more sense that "football", since there is little foot and ball interaction in our US game.

Does The MLS still excist, btw?

Yes. Attendance is down in the last year, but that has a lot to do with the Bush caused depression we are in, more than anything else. I was reading an article a few weeks ago that was talking about how everything in the US was down, including many sporting events, and they noted the MLS attendance was off something like 10% this year. Thing is, they still average about 15,000 fans a game, which may be nothing compared to our football, which averages something like 65,000 plus fans a game, but still, not a bad figure. Some here do like soccer, it really is hockey minus the stick and fighting (other than in the stands I guess) and being played outside.
