You're right on about Brian. He was the mold for the modern rock star or rock star wannabe. Scarfs around his knees, makeup (which I'm not going into - Brain and makeup are weird - witness the Jumping Jack Flash video), Antagonizing the very audience that made you a star, taking way too many drugs...I could go on.

But lately the thing that's been blowing my mind about Brian is his total unconcern with the history of the instruments he played. Listen to George Harrison play a sitar. He handled it like it was precious, and played it in a similar fashion to the way a sitar player would play it. How many did Brian destroy? He tore that fucker to shreds on Paint It Black. His harmonica playing is usually more aggressive than Jagger's, and when he does handle a delicate instrument delicately, it's still the focal part of the song (I'm thinking about Ruby Tuesday. Is that a recorder or a flute Brian is playing? Either way, Ian Anderson learned a whole lot from that song).

What an amazing talent. What a total waste of talent. Brian gets my vote for rocker of the millenium (at least for today).
