Poll Post for the week starting Monday, March 25

So, with the new week here, it’s time to talk about our 3 new polls here in our Poll Post, that we’re be voting on this week! We will have 2 polls for the Stones and one for Beatles.

So yes, another week with a couple of Stones polls for us to answer, and once again, in the second Stones Poll we’ll be voting on the band's newest album, Hackney Diamonds. I’ll talk about that second poll after I first address this week’s first poll.

Okay, for week 1,284 of the Stones Poll, in that first poll we enter week 175 of rating all of the band’s songs. Here’s the song that we’re rating this week: Rate the Stones song “Flight 505”, from zero (lowest) to 10 (highest) (Poll 1).

“Flight 505” From the MP3 Download

"Flight 505" was recorded between March 6 and 9, 1966 and then released on the Stones album Aftermath in 1966. This one is a somewhat strange, blues pop song. The lyrics that Mick Jagger wrote for this ditty is why the song is strange, really making no sense, about a guy who claims he’s happy with his life and then decides he has to get away and start all over with a new life. He then books a seat on an airplane, asking for Flight 505, while he has no clue where he and the plane is heading. Of course, wherever the plane was supposed to be going, well instead, it crashes into the sea and that was the end of the flight (in real life, 20 years after this song was release, in 1986, a Aeroflot plane, Flight 505, was in a deadly crash right after takeoff, and all aboard were killed). Usually when such an event happens to any plane, all abord are killed. So how did this guy write the song afterwards of his deadly crash? I guess Mick could have just borrowed the story line from Arlo Guthrie’s “Motorcycle Song”, as on that one, after he rides off the side of a mountain road - off a cliff on his bike, knowing that he was gonna die, well he didn't, and he explains why in the song. But that song was of course a joke song, meant to be funny, while there's nothing meant to be funny about this one. But "Flight 505" appears on one of the band's best albums of the '60s, and you can't call it a filler song, either, as it's always been well liked and sounds really good, music wise. Just the lyrics are silly and made no sense at all.

This song opens with a wonderful Piano being played on it - so here's the studio lineup for the song, listing the Piano man in the credits first: Ian Stewart: Piano; Mick Jagger: Lead Vocal; Brian Jones: Lead Electric Guitar; Keith Richards: Rhythm Electric Guitar and Background Vocal; Bill Wyman: Bass Guitar; Charlie Watts: Drums.

For our second Stones poll of the week, we’ll answer this: What's your least favorite song on the Stones album Hackney Diamonds? (Poll 2)

Hackney Diamonds Picture Disc Check out HERE how the Disc looks when it’s playing on a turntable

Yeah, the total opposite question from last week’s poll when I asked fans for their favorite song off the LP. Yep, just like we have held polls for all of the other Stone’s albums and asked these very same questions.

Anyway, like I noted last week, you all know how this works, just pick the song that’s your least favorite on the LP. There are 12 songs on Hackney Diamonds, and most of them are excellent, IMO. For myself, there’s only a couple out of the 12 that I’m not crazy about, so for me, I guess it will be one or the other. Here’s the list of the album's songs to choose from: "Angry", "Get Close", "Depending On You", "Bite My Head Off", "Whole Wide World", "Dreamy Skies", "Mess It Up", "Live By the Sword", "Driving Me Too Hard", "Tell Me Straight", "Sweet Sounds of Heaven", and "Rolling Stone Blues". Remember, you get just one song to choose and vote for. To vote, just go here: : Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to the page, choose poll 2 to vote on this question.

Time now to look at last week’s voting in the 2 polls that I ran at the Stones Poll, In the first one we answered this: Rate the Stones song “Cool, Calm & Collected”, from zero (lowest) to 10 (highest) (Poll 1) (Poll 1).

“Cool, Calm & Collected” Tom and Jerry know what that means

For the first time in 5 weeks, the Stones rating Poll finally saw another song score a 10 for its top pick, with “Cool, Calm & Collected” seeing 37% of the 10 vote, To see where this song’s rating ended up in the Stones song standings, just follow this link: Stones Song Ratings & Standings - List Page 5. Plus… to view the full, finial results from this poll, just click here: Stone Poll, week 1,283.

For the second Stones poll run last week, we voted on this What's your favorite song on the Stones album Hackney Diamonds? (Poll 2)

Hackney Diamonds

Well, I was pretty sure that this would be a 2-song contest for first – between “Angry” and “Sweet Sounds of Heaven", and I was correct, with “Angry” seeing the second most votes with 25.8% of that total. and “Sweet Sounds of Heaven" being picked first, taking in 26.1% of the first-place votes.

I’ll add the results from this poll to the list page where all of the other favorite songs from each album is listed, and you can check that out here: “http://www.keno.org/rolling_stones/stones_fans_top_picks_1.htm . There are other cool results from many different polls we have run throughout the years, and the page, along with the other lists pages we have on the Stones site, and the others music sites, are all cool to take a look at once in a while. So go ahead, take a look!... Also, to see the final Poll count totals from this question, just go here: Stone Poll, week 1,283, Poll 2.

Now it’s time to take a peek at this week’s Beatles Poll, where we enter week 673 of voting, and week 107 of rating their songs. Here’s this week’s new question and song to rate: Rate the Beatles song, “Getting Better”, from zero (lowest) to 10 (highest)

“Getting Better” Everybody’s Getting Better! Must be what they’re smoking!

Recorded 9, 10, 21, 23 March 1967 and released on the Beatles' 1967 album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. "Getting Better" was at first a Paul McCartney song, but as was often the case with the songwriting team of Lennon/McCartney, John Lennon often finished up the lyrics for him (and vice versa) like he did on this one. You can pretty much tell who wrote what lines in this tume, with Paul letting everybody know that:It's getting better all the time!", while John's reply to him is "It can't get no worse".

The idea to write "Getting Better", came from of all people, Jimmie Nicol, the session drummer who had to fill-in on the Beatles 1966 tour after Ringo Starr was sick and landed in the hospital for a week. Nicol played at 8 shows for the Beatles at that time and he often would say to the others that "It's getting better all the time!" to lighten up the room, or whatever the 3 Beatles were worrying about something out loud (more than likely, they were concerned about Ringo not being around).

Here is who played what on this number: Paul McCartney – Main Lead Vocal, Backing Vocal, Vocal Harmony, Bass Guitar, handclapping; John Lennon – Some Lead Vocals, Backing Vocal, Vocal Harmony, Rhythm Guitar, handclapping; George Harrison – Backing Vocal, Lead Guitar, Tambura, handclapping; Ringo Starr – Drums, Congas, handclapping; with George Martin – Piano, Pianet (an early electro-mechanical piano), Producer. To vote in this week’s Beatle poll, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

Looking at last week’s Beatles poll results. The question asked was: Rate the Beatles song, “You're Going to Lose That Girl”, from zero (lowest) to 10 (highest)

Another week and again another 10 for a Lennon/McCartney song. To see where in the standings this 10 rating for this song landed, click on the following link: The Beatles Song Ratings and Standings Page . Or, to take a look at the full, finial poll numbers, just go here: Beatles Poll, week 672.

In a closing note about the poll results from last week – for all 3 polls run, they all set records for the most voted on the Stones/Beatles weekly Polls, and it was the first time either poll finished above the 3,000 marker for voter turnout per poll in one week! However, that isn’t close to the all-time record for most voters in a poll on the domain, as the old and now closed Rock Poll, saw well over 4,000 votes for it’s best week, and the top 25 plus poll voter turnouts for that Rock Poll, all have seen more votes than what the Fab and Stones saw per poll last week. Too bad I had to close it down. But even now with our 2 remaining weekly polls, believe me, I’m trying to keep them going, but I’m getting to where it’s getting harder for me to run them today. But I still want to, at the least, have us finish rating all of the Stones and Beatle songs that we haven’t rated yet, then say goodbye. But time will tell what will really happen with our polls.

So, I’m going to close out the Poll Post now with no PP blog for this week. I had wanted to write about something happy this week, instead of bitching about Trump, or politics in general, or my being ill, or my kids, etc. Just talk about something good. Then those killings took place in Russia, and their pig leader Putin, blames Ukraine when he damn well knows who was really behind it. Gosh, I’d love to kick him in the balls just once! No, twice, once for each ball. Gee, guess I just did write a mini–Mumbo Jumble blog after all!

Gosh, it’s snowing like crazy here tonight. I rather see it snow like this in November, or in December, but once spring is here, I rather not see anymore snow fall. Opps, I’m bitching again and not being positive. I promise, I’ll try to write a happy PP blog close next week! In the meantime, I hope all of you have a great week ahead!
