This is GREAT! Keith Richards new cover song!!!!

While this might not be a Stones board anymore, it's still here (as a poll board) and this isn't a Stones post anyway. It's about Keith Richard's new solo song release that just came out and it is flat out FANTASTIC!!

When I wrote up my review of the Stones new LP, I said nothing about Keith's one song on it, since I thought he sounded terrible, and was thinking he shouldn't sing anymore. Well, with this new solo release, I see I was totally wrong!... Keith sounds great on this! When I ran into it on YouTube this morning, I was like - what, Keith covered Lou Reed?! When? Plus how the fuck did I miss this? Well, it's a brand new solo release from Keith that will appear on the new tribute album being released soon, an LP full of Lou Reed songs!

I always looked at Lou like I look at Dylan. A great songwriter - one of the best, who wasn't a great singer. When I saw that Keith covered this song, the first thing I thought was, yes, there's a song Keith might ace! The song, singing wise, and it's subject matter (about making a heroin deal in broad daylight out on a NYC street) is perfect for KR (as it was for Lou)!!

Keith and Lou were good friends before Lou passed on. Makes sense, two of the original Punk Rockers. but this new song from Keith is just flat out great, and it's because of how Keith sang it and not because I've always been a big fan of Lou's old band (the Velvet Underground, who first released it). Yep, I always said David Bowie's live hard Rock version of this song was and still is the best release of this tune, with it's hard driving guitars, being flat out fantastic (thanks to the late, great Mick Ronson)! But Keith's version is much slower, but still faster than the VU's take, which was a song I always felt had cool lyrics but was lacking - until Bowie covered it, anyway. Now KR has covered it, and it too is flat out better than the VU's original! Lou would be so happy with this new cover!!! Thanks Keith! Do check this out.... here: Keith Richards - "I'm Waiting For The Man”,

PS....

"Here he comes, he's all dressed in black, PR shoes and a big straw hat" My favorite line from the song! Guess you had to be from NYC to understand that line. PR shoes were actually Beatle shoes - before the Beatles made then famous and a style. But they were consider fence climbing shoes, wore to get over a chain-link fence real fast when the police were trying to get to you for an arrest. The "PR" was short for "puerto rico" shoes, but not the crap they sell today as puerto rico shoes, the original ones that weren't made famous until the Fabs started to wear them, even if they weren't the first to. The Puerto Rican gang members in NYC wore them a lot, so the shoes were named after them. At the time, PR was not considered a slur towards them by white people (not sure if it still is today or not, since I haven't lived there in 40 plus years). I sure don't mean it as that (nor did Lou) here, just explaining what it means to those who didn't grow up in the Big Apple in the early '60s.
