The young lady who came up with the Beatles new long hair look in 1963 and who was really responsible for long hair on most men by the mid 60s, has passed away at 81. She had been dating the Beatles bassist, Stu Sutcliffe at the time. When she changed his hairstyle, John, Paul and George all liked this new look and also changed their hairstyle at that time to what Stu was wearing, too, and the rest was history. She was already known at the time as a photographer and took several famous photos of the band back in the early days.
RIP Astrid, and thank you for what you did. Without you, all men would have just gone on all looking like clones for the rest of time, even if years later that would be the case anyway for most men who gave in to modern day standards on how a guy should look. But not all of us gave in, as I and many others refused to go back to that ugly, short haired conservative look that was started way back in the 1920s.
