I just went to last month to read that thread - I think you expressed everything quite succinctly Pluto. The Counter Culture movement impacted me in quite subtle ways - I got involved with some very esoteric things - but they were probably more influenced by the Bloomsbury Set earlier in the 20th century than anything else initially. Some years later I discovered the counter culture movement (which generated from the USA). The Vietnam War didn't impact young people in the UK, so there was no UK equivalent to, for example, Jefferson Airplane. Contemporary folk singers were probably the closest we got here. I could write reams of my opinions on for example - somehow we in England were given the luxury of living in quite an idealistic bubble whilst going about our daily lives and earning enough money to pay the bills. Also I think that having parents who'd lived through WWII made a difference too. It must've been far easier being a teenager in England in the 1960s than in the USA. Of course I could be totally wrong, but somehow I think that if I had been raised in the USA at the same time, I wouldn't have been so influenced by Europeans from an earlier generation.
