RE: RE: RE: Stones tribute group

I would say NO. The Stones are not their own tribute band.

And yes, there are countless Rolling Stones tribute bands, probably more than there are Elvis impersonators.

By definition the Stones cannot be their own tribute band, as they are the band being paid tribute to. However, I understand the deeper meaning of the question, but I still see them as their own thing, always striving to be fresh even if not always successful. There is no self-parody with them.

I would say there are many bands of the 70s and 80s that are still going, with major line up changes, that rely solely on a few hits of their prime to capture the public's attention. They tour with little or no new material from the last decade, playing mostly their old hits. These bands are their own tribute bands, but not the Stones. Now, one might say that the Stones just completed a tour with little or no new material of the last decade. That is true. But they did have some new stuff, and they are also completely in a class by themselves. There are hardly any bands that started in the 1960s and that are still going now with the same line up all approaching the octogenarian category.
