You're spot-on about "Rebel Rebel" for sure.
Well, I had 'Hunky Dory', TRAFOZSATSFM, "Diamond Dogs", and "Low", ---> that last one I especially love. It's a head album and I really dug that kind of music. I also borrowed "Let's Dance" several times from the library.
Having only 4 of his albums may not qualify me to give such a comprehensive commentary, but I know enough to say that Bowie didn't stay in one place, artistically, for too long. He kept moving on. Kept trying new (to him) things.
He did a good job with that, staying fresh. But as good as The Stones? Well, the Stones covered many genres for sure, with great results, yet at the same time maintaining their roots (except for TSMR). The Stones were more versatile. More than Bowie.
