Happy New Year! This Week's Poll Post!

Well it’s now 2018 in most areas by the time this post gets made, so a very happy New year’s to all and since it’s early Monday morning, well it’s time to talk about our 5 new weekly polls that got started about 3 and a half hours ago!

As usual we’ll start off talking about the Stones poll, where we enter week 962, and where we always run 2 polls per week. So this week’s first question asks this: Which is the most underrated song on the Stones Some Girls album?

A year ago for our first Stones poll of 2017, we started up this series for the very first time, and by the last time we asked this question we had gotten up to the 1976 LP Black n Blue. So this week we will pick up this series where we left off with the next studio album that was released, '78s' Some Girls.

Now, let’s get this out of the way first, the excellent 12 bonus cuts added to the LP in 2011, do not count in this poll, as we only are looking at the original release here. This LP was really the only Stones album to feature Ronnie Wood on that Stones fans today will say is amongst their best LPs, usually coming in at number 4 on most fans best ever Stones album lists. This one is as excellent as it was advertised, and whenever we have such an LP to consider its most underrated song, well; it ain’t an easy task to try to pick one song out of the bunch. You actually will have a hard time just figuring which songs if any were underrated on the LP since really none of them were. Do you go with the weakest song in this case? Well no, of course not, since the weakest song more than likely wasn’t the most underrated. Usually one of the good songs on the LP will be picked, but which one out of the 10 on this masterpiece will you go with?

To cast your vote in this first poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The second Stones poll is where we run the Stones album VS matchups, and this week we ask this question: Between the Buttons vs Beggars Banquet, which album do you like the best?

vs

Well after skipping around a bit last week in this Stones album VS poll, this week we return to the proper order and get to where we actually left off 2 weeks ago, so that means it time for ‘The Buttons Polls’ to return to the battle, featuring the 1966 LP Between the Buttons, which is doing around average in these matches, with a record of 7-8, so just one win away from the 500 mark and sitting in a tie for 16th place in the standings.

This week BTB will take on a very strong LP, that being 1968’s Beggars Banquet, along with its very strong record of 12-3, tied in 4th place with GHS.

To see the song list for each album, for Between the Buttons, click here: BTB, and for Beggars Banquet, click on: BB

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the first Stones poll last week we answered this question: What kind of year was 2017 for the Stones?

Well of the 4 choices, only 2 of them generation any interest, that being the 2 that gave you the choices between ”just average”, and “a very good year”. To see which choice got the most votes for first place, click onStones Weekly Poll - week 961, poll 1, to find out!

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: December's Children vs Undercover, which album do you like the best?

vs

This one wasn’t close at all, as a landslide took place in the voting. To see the poll’s final results and which LP won, just click here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 961, poll 2. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll we enter poll week 602, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we vote in 2 poll questions a week in this one too. The first poll’s question this week asks this: What is the best Rock song about or set in the wintertime?

Usually my favorite time of the year is winter, just not this year, as where I live we haven’t really had any real winter weather yet. But songs about this season can be cool to listen to while sitting next to a warm fireplace.

For this poll, songs about Xmas are not included, since those tunes are songs about the holiday and not really about winter, plus we already asked that question years ago. This poll also isn't about songs that just talk about being cold, unless the wintertime or a winter month actually comes up in the song’s lyrics, since you could be cold, let’s say, cold as ice, in the summertime, if you are that kind of person.

But I came up with 35 rock ‘n roll winter songs to choose from, if I miss one, do let me know ASAP. To vote in this poll and make your pick for your favorite song listed, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we will vote on this new question: “Surrender” by Elvis Presley vs “Surrender” by Cheap Trick, which one of these 2 different songs with the same title, is better?

vs

We bring back the series called the ‘Same Title, Different Songs Polls’ this week. For the first time since its initial run, this series, which ran from Nov of '16 and didn't end until Feb of '17 - by far the longest running series as far as consecutive weeks of nonstop polling went for any of our polls series, since most usually run 6 weeks at a time. But this one was popular indeed, so I kept running it, and now it's time to bring the series back for round 2. This series is simple, we take 2 songs that are totally different from each other as far as their lyrics go, and the only one thing they have in common, is the 2 song's have the same titles. Then we just ask for the better song of the 2. Yes, a simple question indeed.

As usual as we do for these polls, I provided videos for both songs so you can hear the songs before you vote and compare them. Just remember, for this kind of question, as far as your vote goes, the videos have nothing to do with your vote as far as the actual film clip you see, goes. These videos links are in the voting booth only so you can near the song before you vote – and nothing more than that, so again, we are not voting on the videos, just the song!.... With that noted, and really on a side note to all of this, I would say that the video made for the Elvis song, by a fan, is as good a fan video that I’ve seen on YouTube, and when the time comes to get back to actually voting on videos again in the Rock poll, it will be one of the rare fan videos that we will vote on, as we usually only vote on official vides. But just not this week, as again, we are only voting on the 2 songs.

To vote for your favorite of the 2 songs, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Looking back at last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: What kind of year was 2017 for Rock n Roll Music?

Just like at the Stones poll where we asked about the Stones year, of the 3 choices from this one, only 2 of the choices were in the running for first place.

To see the full final results from this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 601.

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we answered this question: “ I Believe in Father Christmas”' by Greg Lake vs “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” by John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, which unusual Xmas song is better?

vs

A close race last week in this one between these 2 songs. To see which one came in first, just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 601. You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10. Also, do note that I finally got to set up the new VS poll page 3, and for now it is only listing what I'm calling "poll theme questions". That is, VS poll series that have questions that follow a certain theme, just like the question that is being run this week. In time - and more than likely, other non-themed VS questions would be added to this page, but for now, only themed questions will appear on this new page.

We close out this poll post in the usual way, with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 355 asking this question: Rate the Beatles movie Yellow Submarine

This week we return to rating the Beatles movies, after skipping a week of this for last week's Xmas question. So this week we look at the November of 1968 animated movie Yellow Submarine. Yes, the Beatles, in what is a cartoon movie, agree to accompany Captain Fred in his Yellow Submarine and go to Pepperland to free it from the music hating Blue Meanies.

Although the Beatles did agree to allow this movie to be made, and they provided the music and singing for the movie, they actually had nothing else to do with it, with actors speaking their parts for them. John Clive spoke for John, Geoffrey Hughes for Paul, Peter Batten for George, and Paul Angelis for Ringo and for some of Georg's lines too, along with being the voice for the Chief Blue Meanie too, and also the film's narrator. For the most part, Beatle fans seemed to like this movie, but it was more of a children’s film, too.

So what did you think of this flick? To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: What are your feelings about the price for the release of The Beatles Christmas Records box set?

Yep, we almost all agree that the price being charged for this box set is a total rip-off, and we feel this way in a major landslide kind of way. To see the actual final results from this poll, just go there: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 354.

Well that does it for this year’s very first poll post! I wrote most of tonight post Saturday morning, since well, I had something else to do tonight for NYE, and what you’re reading right here for the close is the only thing that I’m actually typing out tonight on New Year’s Eve, or actually, it’s now well after midnight, so it’s officially New Year’s Day. Is 2018 really here already? Gosh I hate the way the years just rush by on us!

But I do hope everybody here who reads and posts at the Land of Gas, has a great New Year ahead. We are now in our last full year of Gasland, although no, I do not have a closing date set yet, only sometime in Jan of 2019 will be the end of this place, and that’s still a full year off, so no need to worry about a date now. Let’s all try to just enjoy our last year together here and let’s all try to get along not only here with each other, but in the real world let’s also get along with each other, including with our friends, neighbors, family, and even those we might not care for. Plus I thank all of you for your support and also for voting each week in our 5 weekly polls!
