Never say never SW, or in your case, "slim to none", but still slim, yes indeed!
I always look at things like this in this way. Something like this is one of those long shots, like a million to one chance (maybe more), but the chance is still there and it will happen sooner or later, and it just happened to you two. Some would say after such an occurrence happens, that you two should play the lottery, since the long odds are on your side. But I say the total opposite to this. The odds were on your side, but not any more since you just had one of those 1 in a million chances take place to you, and that means that now it's gonna be another million times until something like that happens to the both of you again.
So I would say - don't waste any of your hard earned money playing the lottery for a long time (not if you only expect to win the top prize), since you just used up one of your long shots on this and it ain't gonna come around again to you guys for another million chances! Of course, you can look at this in a positive light too, at least something real bad that happens to people once in a million times, didn't happen this time to the 2 of you. So you can even say you were lucky here, even if you didn't win the lottery this time!
