BnB/Exile/SW/Banned LP covers/Beatle polls

Time to talk about our new weekly polls, starting off as usual with the Stones Poll, where we enter week 947, and as we always do at this poll, we’ll vote in 2 poll questions in this one week. The first question will ask this: Which is the most underrated song on the Stones Black and Blue album?

So this week we take a look at the Stones Black and Blue album, released in 1976. It only contained 8 songs on it, yes, that was it, and to some fans this LP was lacking a bit, maybe because its sessions were used as an audition to find a new lead guitarist to replace Mick Taylor, and as we all know, Ron Wood was the man chosen. But when you have an album like this one that never was highly rated, it usually means there are a few underrated songs on it, even if this LP only had 8 songs on it.

Two songs on this LP “Hey Negrita" and "Melody", which play back to back on the album (tracks 5 and 6), were 2 of those Stones songs that never should have had the Jagger/Richards writing credit attached to it, as Richards had nothing to do with writing either of them. Jagger wrote the lyrics to HN, while the music was written by the about to become brand new Stone, Wood. Ron had brought the song’s music into the studio with him while auditioning for his part in the band. Then "Melody" was written mainly by Billy Preston, with maybe some help with the lyrics from Jagger. Billy did sing the co-lead vocal on this song with Mick, but with both of these songs, and as has sadly been the case with the Glimmer Twins since the '60s, the song's main writers weren't credited or paid for their work.

The second Stones poll is where we run the Stones album VS matchups, and this week's question asks this: Exile On Main Street vs Steel Wheels, which album do you like the best?

vs

The Exile Polls return this week, featuring 1972’s Exile on Main Street, sporting the third best record in these matchups, at 13-2. This week it takes on 1989's Steel Wheels, which is not doing so well in these matches, with a losing record of 2-12 and near the bottom of the pile in 20th place in the standings.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

At the first Stones poll last week we answered this question: Which is the most underrated song on the Stones It's Only Rock 'n Roll album?

Unlike 2 weeks ago, last week at this poll we saw a much closer race, with 7 of the 10 songs all in the race till today, when “Time Waits for No One”, which was ahead for most but not the entire week, ended up taking first by 4 votes over 3 songs that tied for second place, those being “Dance Little Sister”, “Fingerprint File”, and “Luxury”.

To check put the full results from this poll, click on here::Stones Weekly Poll - week 946, poll 1. The top results will also show up at the Stones’ Fans Top Picks, page 1 , where each song picked so far as the most underrated from each album is listed.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, the question was: Blue and Lonesome vs Undercover, which album do you like the best?

vs

Blue and Lonesome rebounded last week, beating up on the lowly rated Undercover. To see the final results from this poll, just click here:Stones Weekly Poll - week 946, poll 2. Plus, I’ll add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

Now let’s move on to the Classic Rock Poll, where we enter week 587 of these polls, and just like as we do at the Stones poll, we vote in 2 poll questions a week at this one too. The first poll’s question this week asks: What album cover banned or censored because of nudity, deserved it the least? (click here to see the covers)

We have the very same 46 choices to choose from for this week’s question/poll, that we had last week. Only difference this week is instead of looking at the cover that deserved to be banned the most, this time we ask you to pick the cover that you feel never should had been banned or censored out of the bunch. I think we all agree most of these covers never should have been banned in the first place, as last week's results tell us that. No matter how bad an album cover may look, as long as it isn't hurting anybody, just let it be.

So this week we look at the most ridiculous bans or censorship inflicted on any one album. Yes, some albums were censored more than others listed were, and that can be considered in your vote. Plus again, as I noted last week, if you click on the links to the albums listed (located in the poll question), you can view most of the album covers, and most include nudity, so if you rather not look at such photos, don't click on the link and just vote by the description or by what you remember about the album cover in question.

Also, to restate this following note from last week, by using the word "censored", that means that the LPs were forced to be either displayed in stores covered in a paper bag, or had stickers placed on the nude body parts to cover them up, or that they were altered from what originally was shown on the cover, etc.

Plus another note from last week is that because of the usual space limits in the poll's admin, where I build the poll, not the greatest or proper grammar could be used by me in the album cover's description, so for example, "w/" is used instead of "with", etc, and in some cases, words in a sentence willruninto each other so all the text fits in the poll.

To pick the album cover that you feel never should have been banned out of the 46 listed, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

At the second Rock poll this week, known better as the Rock VS poll, we will vote on this question: Elton's John's 'Empty Garden' (main title) vs 'Hey Hey Johnny'(sub title), which title is better?

Elton John wrote this song in 1982 along with Bernie Taupin about the death of John Lennon, which had taken place 2 years before. Of the song’s title and subtitle, which one do you like better? To vote in this poll, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: What album cover banned or censored because of nudity, deserved it the most?

Out of the 46 choices last week, only 6 album covers were ever in the running, with those 6 covers seeing 95% of the votes cast, while on the other end of the spectrum, 26 album covers didn’t see a single vote. The top vote getter was the cover to Blind Faith’s 1969 self-titled LP. That cover featured a nude 11 year old girl on it. Second place went to the LP No Love Deep Web by Death Grips, which shows the erect penis of the band’s drummer, with the LP's title written in black marker on it.

To see the full, final results from this poll, just click here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 586. Or check out the top pick at the Top 10 Rock Page 14.

In last week’s VS Rock poll, we answered this question: John Lennon's 'Norwegian Wood' (main title) vs 'This Bird Has Flown'(sub title), which title is better?

In somewhat close voting, “Norwegian Wood” was the choice chosen by fans. To see the poll’s final results, just click here: Rock Poll 2, week 586 You can also check out the final results at the VS Classic poll results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, by clicking here: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

As usual I close out this poll post with the Beatles poll, where we enter week 340 of voting, and ask this question: Magical Mystery Tour vs Beatles For Sale, which album do you like the best?

vs

Week 5 of "the Mystical and Magical Polls”, featuring the Beatles 1967 Magical Mystery Tour album. This week the underrated MMT takes on the first pop Beatles album that we are looking at in this series, Beatles For Sale. That of course means BFS was the last Beatles pop album, too, since we are going backwards in the Fab's catalog for this series. But one thing about the Beatles, when it came to pop songs, nobody – and I mean nobody, did them better. So it should be interesting to see how an album full of Classic Rock Beatle songs will do against an album of classic pop Beatle tunes.

To see the song list for each album, for Magical Mystery Tour, click on: MMT, and for Beatles For Sale, click here: BFS

To vote in this poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we asked: Magical Mystery Tour vs Help!, which album do you like the best?

vs

This battle was a lot closer than it at first appeared to be, thanks to a poll spammer who I caught this morning voting over and over again for Help!. Once I took away all of the spam votes that this fool voted for (and banned the voter from voting for life), it showed that the race was very close, indeed. Help! still hung on to win, but not by much. And yes, the final results are 100% correct, as finding and removing such spam votes is an easy thing to do. The only negative thing that has changed at our polls in the last 2 years since the polls have grown big times in votes, is with that comes an small increase in spammers, who always will get caught while their votes will never count, as I catch them every time in the end, thanks to the poll’s excellent spam filter. There is one golden rule I have at these polls - when a voter gets caught spamming, they get banned instantly for good, and with no exceptions. So don’t think by disabling your cookies, that doing that will get you extra votes, it never does, it will only get you banned, even if you don’t realize it, your vote won’t count anymore.

To see the final results for this poll, just click here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 339. Or, you can check out the Beatles current album VS standings and past matchups at the: Beatles Albums page , which is located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

So fall starts officially this week, are you ready for it? Here where I live, the trees are starting to change colors and our highest mountains are seeing some snow falling on them. I just love this time of the year!

As always, I thank all of you who vote in our polls each week!
