RE: RE: Stones Sound fidelity

This is a good and fair question, and one I have asked a couple of times before.

Overall, the Stones are not that great for sound quality. They are NO WHERE CLOSE to bands like Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Genesis, or many others.

Why is this?

I'm not really sure... many reasons, I guess.

And lets be clear here. Sonic quality, fidelity, has ZERO to do with artistry. I say that just in case anyone things that I am saying something about the Stones music itself.

So what "sounds" the best by the Stones?

Dirty Work sounds pretty good.

Some of the 70s stuff has solid work in terms of sound staging but the dynamic range is subpar.

If your enjoyment if the Stones rests upon your love of high-end audiophile type stuff (and i am not saying it does) then you would not enjoy the Stones a whole lot.

They rarely do well in this area.

Funny you should ask this as I was just listening to Dire Straits Love Over Gold album. They might possibly be the greatest ever band among main stream rock bands for overall sonic quality
