War and Unforgettable Fire are semi-listenable, but the other two you mentioned really are outstanding. But pretty much all of the rest is utter shite. Dylan is probably second to the Stones in terms of the amount of albums he made that are simply brilliant. But he has definitely released a nearly equal amount of rotten toxic garbage to go with it. The Dead made a few solid LPs in the late 60s but after that things deteriorated significantly. I guess the love isn't as strong as the hate is for them. I guess I might even include Hendrix and the Doors, but perhaps I'm reaching too far there. They were both so amazing at times but then way too wild at other times, both in performance and outside of music. And obviously I'm also pissed at them for dying too young and wasting the potential for more music I could have enjoyed. This little exercise tells me how gray my opinions on music really are, and how they must be that way for everything else too.
