SFTD/Big Bang Poll/ELO/Who/Fabs

It’s time for the weekly poll post, and for the next 2 weeks at both the Stones and Beatles polls, we will ask similar questions, along with the Rock VS also seeing almost the same question, in regard to song titles, where we will place a song's actual title up against either a title that the fans seem to prefer to call the songs, or, in the case of this week's Stones poll, the song's title will go up against the original title of the song. So with that in mind, for week 899 of the Stones poll, the question asks this: The Rolling Stones' “Sympathy for the Devil” (actual title) vs “The Devil is My Name” (original title), which title is better?

I'm thinking that some fans might actually like the original title better, especially if they might have strong religious feelings and don't ever wish any sympathy for the Devil (or anything sinister in general). Of course, if you know your Stones well enough, you know that the "devil" in this song isn't really Satan, but mankind, but no question, what's noted in the song is still sinister things that mankind has done throughout history.

So which title do you think works better for the song? To cast your vote in this first Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

The week's second Stones poll will ask this: A Bigger Bang vs Black and Blue, which album do you like the best?

vs

The Big Bang Polls return this week to the Stones album VS series. The Stones very last released studio album from a bit over 10 years ago, A Bigger Bang has a 4-6-1 record in this polling series, sitting in 15th place. Black and Blue, released in 1976, isn't doing any better, actually it's doing a bit worst, at 2-7 and sits in 19th place.

To see the song list for each album, for A Bigger Bang, go here: ABB, and for Black and Blue, go here: BnB.

To cast your vote in this second Stones poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

Another nice turnout at the Stones polls last week, and at the first poll the question we asked was: It's Only Rock n Roll vs Still Life, which album has the best drawing on its cover?

No matter how cool and interesting the SL album cover is, there isn’t another Stones album cover as great as the one to land on IORR, and last week’s poll seems to point to that fact. What a great drawing indeed! To see the final results, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 898 poll 1.You can also check out the final results at the Stones Stones VS Lists Page 2.

Looking back at last week’s second Stones poll, it asked: Dirty Work vs Emotional Rescue, which album do you like the best?

vs

Well, DW actually didn’t get beaten in the giant way it usually gets beaten, but it did still lose in a big landslide anyway to continue its losing streak and drop to 0-18. You can go here to see the final totals:Stones Weekly Poll - week 898, poll 2. I’ll also add the results from this poll to the standings at the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

At the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 539, and as usual we’ll vote in 2 polls in this one too. The first question this week is: What is your favorite song by The Electric Light Orchestra?

The Electric Light Orchestra formed in 1970 by songwriters/musicians Roy Wood and Jeff Lynne, along with drummer Bev Bevan. Wood left after the first album and Lynne took over leading the band after that. This band really was a true orchestra – but one that played rock music. They had a lot of big hits, 30 of which we will vote on this week. To do that now and see the songs that are listed, go here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For this week’s Rock VS poll the question is: The Who's 'Baba O'Riley' (actual title) vs 'Teenage Wasteland' (title fans gave it), which title is better? .

It should be interesting to see what title fans will vote on in this poll when the week is up. “Baba O'Riley”, released in 1971, was written by the Who's leader, Pete Townshend, combining the names of 2 different people for the title, his musician friend Terry Riley, and his spiritual leader, Meher Baba. But the song had nothing to do with either of them. Townshend wrote this song about the kids he saw Woodstock and who he felt were all lost souls (he was the only one there who felt this way, for the most part it seemed). Fans loved the hard rock song, not knowing the song was really more of a put down of them than praise, as Townshend was never a hippie, nor did he care for such people (his loss). But many fans, who just didn't care for Meher Baba (including myself), started to and preferred to call the song "Teenage Wasteland", a lyric repeated in the song often enough. No question, the song itself was great, and we teens of the late 1960s and early ‘70s were indeed wasted often enough, just not on the same drug that Townshend himself was wasted on, that being Meher Baba's teachings.

Which title do you like better? To make your pick, just click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: What is your favorite song by The Beach Boys?

One song stuck out big time, and I bet you know the song I’m talking about, that being “Good Vibrations” it came in first, with 16.3% of the vote. Second place went to “Wouldn't It Be Nice” at 11.9%, and finishing third was “Help Me, Rhonda”, with 6.5%.

You can check out the full, final results from this Rock poll by clicking here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 538. You can also check out the final results at the Top Ten Lists, Page, 13.

In last week’s Rock VS poll, we asked: R&B/Soul/Motown vs, Reggae, which music genre do you like more?

The sixth and final week of the Full of Soul Polls. R&B/Soul/Motown did very well overall in the voting and won in 5 out of six weeks, including last week. To see the final results from this VS Rock poll, click here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 538. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close out this poll post as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 292, and this week’s new question is: The Beatles' 'A Day In The Life' (actual title) vs 'I Love to Turn You On' (title some fans call it), which title is better?

John Lennon wrote this masterpiece, which was released in 1970 on Abbey Road. All hard core Beatle fans call it by its given title, but some, mainly fans who don't know the band as well, sometimes call it "I Love to Turn You On". I actually had some people call me on the phone back in my deejay days asking if I could play "I Love to Turn You On" by the Beatles. Well, at least they knew who performed the song.

To vote in this week’s Beatles poll, please go here: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: Which version of the Beatles song 'Love Me Do' was best?

Very close voting between 2 of the 3 takes of the song. To see which one won, just go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 291. Or, you can check out the poll’s winner at the following Beatles list page, just click on Beatles VS Page, which is located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well I’m totally exhausted tonight, as I spend my Sunday working outside on the house all day, in the terrible strong winds we had today, but damn, we did have record high temperatures to go with that wind. Global warming is real, and it totally sucks as to what is going to happened to this poor planet and its people after us foolish humans allow oil pigs to get away with their lies, but climate change does help keep your heating bills real low, too.

As usual, thanks to all of you who voted in our polls!
