Fender Bender -- great observations. I did not know that Wilson played keyboards. My only differing point of view is that I do hear a bit of the Beach Boys in the music on this album. Its sort of on a deeper level I guess.
Some have actually said that this is album is better than anything that the Beach Boys did outside of Pet Sounds. But I confess that I do not know their work well enough to speak to that. In any case, its a simply beautiful album. I just love the experience of discovering such a hidden gem. Also, this album really holds up. Its not dated in anyway and it sounds like it could have been released today.
