RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: weed

I recall a very long time ago (more than 10 years past I bet) when we had a thread here about weed, you noted you felt it should remain illegal. Have you finally changed your mind on that today?

Even here in Colorado where it's legal, it's still restricted depending on where you live and where you go. Out in the Republican controlled Great Plains of eastern Colorado, it's still mainly not legal, other than they got no choice but to follow the state's lead and allow legal possession for personal, private use, and individuals can grow their own marijuana (since all of this was voted into the state's constitution, so they got no choice). But no commercial grows are allowed out there and no stores are allowed to sell weed. Yet the eastern plains would be the best place in the entire state to grow it, and they need the money out there real bad, too, since they don't get the tourist dollars the rest of the state sees (nobody ever wants to visit there since there's nothing out there to visit). The people who live out there are a bunch of fools IMO, and because they don't allow any sales of weed out that way, they don't get a share in any of the state's marijuana tax money the rest of the state is seeing (as they shouldn't, and that's a ton of money they're missing out on).

But in most of the rest of Colorado, sales and commercial grows are allowed, but you still can't smoke in public. I both agree and disagree with that. If you go to a big concert in a venue, it won't be fair to smoke around somebody who doesn't wish to smell it.... BUT.... if the tickets are sold with the understanding that weed will be allowed, then I see nothing wrong with this. In fact, early on after pot was first made legal here, they tried to do that, and not only with rock shows, but the first show they did it for (and it sold out in minutes), was for a classical music concert at the Denver Symphony, where everybody would be allowed to light up. But then the courts said no and put an end to that, since the state laws say that you can't smoke anywhere inside any Colorado venues, period. But that law was made to protect those against second hand tobacco smoke, which is deadly, and that part of the law is good... BUT.... second hand smoke from marijuana isn't deadly at all. So that state law is under review now and the wording will be changed (we hope!). Denver this fall will vote on allowing such get togethers where weed can be smoked in bars, outdoor public parties, and in music venues, etc. You can bet it will pass. Right now a tourist can come to Colorado, buy all the weed they want with no restrictions, but basically have nowhere to smoke it, since most hotels don't allow it! That's plain out stupid, but at least in Denver that's about to change.

But when you're at an outside concert up in the mountains, at say Red Rocks, you should be able to smoke there, hell, that is one of the best places in the entire world to light up for a show at! Yet it's not allowed, even if many do it anyway.
