Band names/BTB/12x5/LIB/BFS/more LPs

It’s time to talk about this week’s new polls, and as usual we start off with The Stones poll, where we enter week 877 of this weekly poll and the question is: Between the Buttons vs 12x5, which album do you like the best?

vs

Week 8, and the last week (for now) of the “Buttons poll”. I still haven't decided yet if I'll start next week running a second weekly Stones poll which will only feature this series of questions/matchups, since we won't be able to ever get to all of them in the last 2 plus years that is left of the Stones weekly poll, even if it was the only question we ever again asked (and it won’t be). Guess I got a week to think this over. If I do run it in the matter such as a second poll, I would start by bringing back some of the older series that already ran only once (for 6 weeks at a time), and save the ones I haven't gotten to yet only in the weeks where I feature the poll question as the main Stones poll. So far to date, there have been 15 of these different series run. From the comments I've gotten, poll fans would like to see this done with running the second poll, but it is more work for me, but then again, running an extra poll does bring in more voters to the domain, too, which is nice, so I'll see how I feel about this in the next week as to how to go with this series of questions.

This week BTB goes up again another '60s album, 12x5, the second Stones US album, released in October of 1964. 7 of the songs on this LP were covers, so 12x5 was more a cover album, with just 3 songs written by Jagger/Richards, along with 2 more credited to the entire band. But in the match-up in the series so far, when BTB goes up against a cover LP, for some reason (and nobody has been able to explain to me why), the cover LPs have all won each time over BTB, which of course is all original songs. You think most fans would be fonder of an album of original material, so I still don't get it… But anyway, for 12x5, it didn't have a lot of hits on it, really just one, "It's All Over Now", with the cover version of "Time Is on My Side" found on here being the organ take of the song, which was okay, but not the big hit that the guitar version of the song became less than a year later..

To see the song list for Between the Buttons, go here: Between the Buttons . To see the song list from12x5, go here: 12x5. To cast your vote in this Buttons poll, just click on: Stones Weekly Poll.

Last week at the Stones poll we asked:Between the Buttons vs Aftermath , which album do you like the best?

vs

Aftermath came out on top of this one. To see by how much, you can check out the final result here: Stones Weekly Poll - week 876. I’ll also add the results from this poll to the Stones VS Page 1, where at the top of the page you can check out the updated standings on how each album has done in these long running VS polls.

At the Classic Rock Poll, we enter week 517, and as usual, we’ll vote in 2 polls in this one. The first question in the Rock Poll this week asks: Of the bands named after a band member (or vice versa), which name was best?

This is the first of 2 weeks of polls that will look at bands that are named after either a band member(s) or a non-band member. This week we look at band members only. Now you don't have to like a band to vote for them in this poll, since we are going by the band's names only and how the name worked out for the band; so the poll question has nothing to do with their sound.

So IYO, which band listed had the best name? To see the poll list and vote, just click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

For this week’s Rock VS poll, the new question is: The Beatles debut LP Please Please Me vs the Stones debut LP, The Rolling Stones, which one was better?

vs

Week 2 of the Stones' albums vs Beatles' albums poll series. For this week’s poll we will only vote by looking at the each band's true UK debut LP, not the ones released in the US, which really weren't their debut albums that they wanted out, but what record executives wanted released, although, in the US for the actual first Beatles release (by a week over the other one) Introducing... The Beatles on VeeyJay Records, it was identical to the UK album, other than for a missing a track on each side. But Meet the Beatles! on the US Capital release was very much different, with several different songs, including some from the Beatles second UK album.

For the Stones, we will also just consider our votes for the UK release, for reasons I just noted above. Plus yes, I know that's the US cover being shown above and not the UK cover, but the UK LP had the same photo on its cover, just less text written on it.

So which of these 2 LPs is the better debut? If you would like to see the song list for each one before you vote, for The Stones LP go here, and for PPM, go here.

So, ready to vote now? Just click on Classic Rock Poll to so so, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll, we asked: Of the following artists not in the Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame, who should be in there the most?

The Moody Blues were the top pick this year in our 4th annual asking of this question (they tied last year for first with Deep Purple, who finally got in this year). This year besides the Moodies, 3 other bands got most of the other votes, Jethro Tull, the Electric Light Orchestra, and The Monkees. These same bands always have fared well with this question in the past polling done, so they are clearly bands that classic rock fans want to see added into the Hall the most that haven't made it in yet. Overall in the voting, a total of 12 bands got the most votes. You can see the full, final results from tis poll by clicking here: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 516.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked:Dirty Work by the Stones vs Yellow Submarine by the Beatles, which of these 2 fan maligned albums is better?Well, I guess it don’t matter what album DW goes up against, it’s gonna lose, as it didn’t even do well enough to beat out the poorest Beatle LP. To see the final results, just click here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 516. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close this out as usual with the Beatles poll, where it’s week 270, while we enter week 8 of voting on the Let it Be album in the “Beatles albums VS Beatles albums polls”. So this week’s question is: Let It Be vs Beatles for Sale, which album do you like the best?

vs

Beatles for Sale was the fourth studio album put out by the Beatles, released on December 4, 1964. Like on all Beatles albums, there are some great songs on here to enjoy.

Now before you vote, to see the song list for Let it Be , go here: Let it Be . To see the song list for Beatles for Sale , go here: Beatles for Sale . Then to cast your vote in this week’s poll, use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week's Beatles poll we answered this question: Let It Be vs Help! , which album do you like the best?

vs

Could Let It Be finally pull off a win? To see if that was or wasn’t the case, just go here: Beatles Weekly Poll – week 269. Or, you can check out the results at the The Beatles' Studio Albums page, located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

Well that does it for this week’s poll post. Here in Colorado it’s the last week of school before summer break sets in for our kids. Already? I mean there’s still snow in the forecast here for mid-week, so how can it be summer break already? Hell, I haven’t broken out any of my summer clothes yet! But yes, it is that time of year regardless. And believe me, our kids all know it. Yet for the rest of us old farts, it’s just another week I guess, but do make the best of it and have a great one, and thanks as always for voting in our polls!
