Brian played harp more than once on the song, including in the studio, on the very first take of it when it was recorded at Chess. I got it on boot and it sounds good.
As far as Martin went, he was just doing what all of his generation was doing in making fun of long hair and rock music. Asshole Frank Sinatra was a lot worst than Martin in the many stupid things he would say in putting down those who played rock and Martin was just repeating what his good friend Frank was saying. Yet Frank went crawling on his knees to rockers just a few years later, begging them for help when nobody wanted to listen to him sing anymore, and like fools, some of the rockers helped him out.
