Stones studio LPs live/Repeating lyrics/CHeat/Fabs

Week 822 of our Stones poll is here, and this week’s question asks: Of the Stones studio's albums, which one would you like to hear them play live, in its entirety? I noted here last week that we would take a break from tour questions for this week’s poll, but then Sway made a suggestion for question something like the one above and with no other question planned yet for this week, hey, why not ask this excellent question this week?

When voting on this question, we are talking about the present day lineup of the Stones only as to who would be performing the album, since that’s reality. The question isn’t’ asking you to pick your favorite album here, either, only the one you would want to hear played live by the current lineup.

To vote on the album you would like to hear played live on this new tour, click on: Stones Weekly Poll

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: What is your opinion on the prices that the Stones are charging for their upcoming U.S. tour? A total landslide of fans (71.2%) picked : “The prices are too high. I think they’re greedy and are taking advantage of their loyal fans”. Too bad we can’t get them to lower their prices, but at least they will know that their fans aren’t happy with the price they charge us.

Next, at the Classic Rock Poll, it’s week 464, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll we ask: Of the songs that repeat the same lyrics over and over again, which one is best? (Part 4 of 5) The final week of original songs to vote on for this question, and as noted last week, a word or lyric has to be repeated more than 15 times in a song to make the list.

To see this week’s excellent list of songs to make your pick from, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll, we ask this: 'On the Road Again’ vs ‘Going Up the County', which one of these 2 Canned Heat traveling songs is better?

This is the second week in a row to feature the Canned Heat song "On the Road Again". It wasn’t planned this way, but I did wish to continue with this line of questions of songs that tell a story of a rolling stone. As noted last week, 'On the Road Again' was written by Canned Heat's guitarist and harmonica player Alan Wilson in 1967 and released early in January of 1968 on their second album, Boogie with Canned Heat. The single came out in April of '68, with Wilson on the lead vocals, singing in falsetto, and the song became a major hit for the band.

‘Going Up the County’ was known as a counterculture hippie anthem, and also as the "unofficial anthem" of Woodstock . This song was also written by Alan Wilson, and was adapted from a 1920s blues song. Like their previous single, "On the Road Again", Wilson sang the lead on this one too, and again in falsetto, and like "On the Road Again", this one also became one of the group's biggest hits. Very unusual for any band to see their 2 biggest songs not being sung by their normal lead singer, and although Canned Heat became a well-known major act of their time, they would only have 3 top 10 hits as it was (the only non Wilson song sung by normal lead singer Bob Hite to hit the Top 10 was “Lets Get Together”). One last note on ‘Going Up the County’, was the very cool flute heard in the song, which was played by Jim Horn, who is no stranger to Stones fans.

So which song out of the 2 by this band will you go with? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: Of the songs that repeat the same lyrics over and over again, which one is best? (Part 3 of 5) 9 songs this week saw enough votes to live on to Part 5 of this question. They are: Starfucker - The Rolling Stones: Title repeated 74 times (10.2%); Kiss Him Goodbye - Steam: 'Na na na na, na na na, hey hey, goodbye' repeated 42 times (9.2%); Born in the U.S.A. - Bruce Springsteen: Title repeated 16 times (5.4%), Let it Be - The Beatles: Title repeated 40 times (5.4%), Lola - The Kinks: Title repeated 26 times (5.4%); Changes - David Bowie: Title repeated 15 times (5.3%); Help Me, Rhonda - The Beach Boys: title is repeated 32 times; 'help help' repeated 24 times (5.1%), Hurdy Gurdy Man - Donovan: Title, or just 'Hurdy Gurdy' repeated 32 times ( 5.1%(, Nobody But Me - The Human Beinz: 'No no no no no no' repeated 77x; 'Nobody' repeated 44x (5.1%).

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: 'On the Road Again' (by Canned Heat) vs 'Baker Street' (by Gerry Rafferty), which song about a dishearten drifter is better? As is usually is the case in our vs polling, a close vote took place for this question. To see which song ended up on top, just go here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 463. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We rap this all up with our Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 217, and this week we bring Ringo into the VS line of questions for the first time, when we ask this: George Harrison vs Ringo Starr, who was the better singer of the 2 in the Beatles? There really aren’t too many questions we can ask with Ringo in this kind of a question, and this one is one of the few. As it was, Ringo was usually given one song to sing lead on per album, but no, not on all of their albums, either. He also would at times sing backing vocals for the band, but not as often as one might think.

For George, he got to sing lead more often than Ringo did, and he even had a few big hits on a few of those songs for the band. Part of the reason for that was George was a songwriter, whereas Ringo wasn’t. Lucky for George, he was in a band that allowed others besides the band’s leaders, to use their material.

To vote this week’s Beatles poll, just use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: John Lennon vs Paul McCartney vs George Harrison who was the best 6 or 12 string guitarist in the Beatles? George won this with 42.2% of the vote.

So, is your month of May off to a good start? As I noted in the Mother’s Day thread, we had a major snowstorm here in the last day. It just seems weird seeing all of that snow on the ground so late in the spring. So has it warmed up where you live?.... As usual, I thank you all for taking part in our 4 weekly polls, and do have a great upcoming week!
