Ticket prices/Repeating lyrics/RS songs/3 Fabs

It’s time to get the polls underway for the domain and week 821 of our Stones poll, and this week’s question asks:What is your opinion on the prices that the Stones are charging for their upcoming U.S. tour? This will more than likely be the last week of pre-tour questions, although one or 2 more could be asked as the tour gets going. But how do you fell about the prices the Stones have been charging for this new tour? Fans have been vocal on ticket prices charged by the Stones for the last several tours, and we have asked this question more than once in the past before a new tour starts up. So let’s see if the feelings are the same now as they have been in the past.

To vote on how you feel about the prices being charged for this new tour, click on: Stones Weekly Poll

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Should the Stones use an opening act on the new US tour? By a large margin, Stones fans would rather just see the Stones play than watch some opening act come on stage before them. I got a feeling if we asked this for other band, that we would see the same results. Perhaps I just thought up a new Rock poll question for the distant future poll? But for now we know that around 55% of Stones fans aren’t interested in seeing some other band play before the greatest Rock band in the world, who we actually paid to see, plays.

Over at the Classic Rock Poll, it’s week 463, and as usual, we will vote in 2 different polls for the week. In the first poll we ask: Of the songs that repeat the same lyrics over and over again, which one is best? (Part 3 of 5) Week 3 of our poll on word repetition in songs. What we covered in the last 2 week’s poll posts still applies this week, and again, a word or lyric has to be repeated more than 15 times in a song to make the list (with one exception this week, with a very short song that repeats its title 15 times in a song that’s well under 2 minutes long).

This week’s list has some dandies in it, and as happens often in this poll, there are several songs this week that I could vote for. To see this excellent list of songs and make your pick and vote, click here: Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll, we ask this: 'On the Road Again' (by Canned Heat) vs 'Baker Street' (by Gerry Rafferty), which song about a dishearten drifter is better?

"On the Road Again" was written by Canned Heat's guitarist and harmonica player Alan Wilson in 1967 and released early in January of 1968 on their second album, Boogie with Canned Heat. An edited version was released as a single in April of '68, but Canned Heat's lead vocalist Bob Hite didn't sing on this song; instead Wilson did, in falsetto, that some to this day never cared for, yet most did, as the song went to #1 on the charts. "On the Road Again" became Canned Heat's first hit record and one of their best-known songs. Wilson also blew the harp on this song, as he did on all of their songs that featured a harp (up until his death of course), and Hite, who didn't play on the record, would play the harp when the song was performed live.

“Baker Street” was written and recorded by Gerry Rafferty. Named after a London street of the same name where he was staying while breaking away from his band, Stealers Wheel, the song was included on Rafferty's second solo album, City to City. An edited version of “Baker Street” was released as a single in 1978, it reached #1 in the US and UK. The song featured a cool saxophone played by Raphael Ravenscroft, including a wonderful solo sax riff, that at first was supposed to be an electric guitar solo, but when the lead guitar player didn't show up for the session, Ravenscroft, who was visiting the studio that day, asked if he could give the solo a shot on his sax, and well, the rest is history.

So which song out of the 2 will you go with? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: Of the songs that repeat the same lyrics over and over again, which one is best? (Part 2 of 5) 6 songs definitely saw enough votes to make their way into Part 5 of this question, and another 4 might have, as they fell below the 5% needed threshold, but saw more than 4.5% of the vote, which means if you round the total off, then they did get 5%. It will just depend on how many songs we have above 5% after Part 4 is finished, and see if these other 4 songs will be included or not, The 6 that did make it were: “She Loves You” by The Beatles, with 'Yeah yeah yeah' repeated 28 times (10.6%); “The Lion Sleeps Tonight by The Tokens: with 'Wimoweh' repeated 75 times (10.4%); “All You Need Is Love” Beatles, with the title repeated 13 times, the word “'Love” repeated 44 times, and the lyric “Love is all you need” 40 times (10.2%), “Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zeppelin, with “Love” repeated 22 times (10.2%), “You Can't Always Get What You Want’ by the Stones, with its title repeated 19 times (10.2%), and “Tumbling Dice” by the Stones, and “Got to roll me” repeated 21 times (9.8%). The other 4 songs that are on hold for now, are “Every Picture Tells A Story”, by Rod Stewart, title repeated 24 times (4.9%), “Small Town” by John Mellencamp, title repeated 21 times (4.9%); “Franklin's Tower”, by The Grateful Dead, with the lyric “Roll away the dew”' repeated 27 times (4.7%), and “Spill The Wine” by Eric Burdon & War, with that’s song’s title repeated 21 times (4.7%).

To see the full results from this poll and the many songs that didn’t make it to the final round, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 462.

In last week’s VS poll, we asked: 'The Motorcycle Song' (by Arlo Guthrie) vs 'Bad Motor Scooter' (by Montrose/Sammy Hagar), which song is better? Close voting in this one. To see the final results, just go here: Classic Rock VS Poll, week 462. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

Finally on to our Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 216 and we will ask this: John Lennon vs Paul McCartney vs George Harrison who was the best 6 or 12 string guitarist in the Beatles? This week we bring George into the verses questions that we have been asking for the last month at this poll… Now this question does not include bass guitar, only 6 and 12 strings, including slide, although Lennon was really the only slide player in the Beatles, as Harrison was just getting into that style of playing as the band was breaking up. But all 3 of these Beatles played some excellent guitar on record and some will say that all 3 of them were underrated as far as being guitarist go. I agree, but which one out of the 3 played the ax best while in the Beatles?

To vote this week’s Beatles poll, just use this link: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: John Lennon vs Paul McCartney, who was the better musician in the Beatles? Well, would Paul finally come out in top in these verses questions we’ve been asking? Or would John keep his winning streak going?

To find out which Fab prevailed, go here: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 215. Or, you can check out the final results at the Beatles VS Poll Page, located at the domain’s Lennon Site.

As a few have noted already on our Gas board in the last few days, yeah, it’s already May! So did those April showers bring you May flowers to your house? Well here where I live, not yet, we’re still waiting for the trees to at least start budding. At least one of my pot plants just started to bud last week, so that’s nice, but then again, it ain’t growing outside, either. Our growing season doesn’t start until early June here, so we got a while to go, but our tomato plants are underway inside, we’ll transfer then outside in about a month. But spring is a nice time of the year, no question about it!

Well, I don’t know about you, but I got one hell of a busy week ahead of me, so I hope it’s a great one not only for me, but for all of you Gassers, too. As always, thanks to all who take part in our polls!
