Undercover/TSMR/Acoustic guitar/VS/Fabs

It’s a cold and snowy night here in Colorado, and it’s also time for week 811 of our Stones poll, plus time to start week 4 of the Undercover Polls, where we are placing this 1983 LP up against other Stones albums. So this week’s question is:

vs.

Undercover vs Their Satanic Majesties Request , which album do you like the best? Hard to believe, but in the many years of running this Stones vs Stones album match-up, TSMR has never been included, the only Stones album left not to be run in this series yet, but that now changes this week.

TSMR was released in 1967 and is known as the band’s psychedelic album. It received mainly terrible reviews when first released, but in time it seemed to grow on most fans and today is looked at as a good album. This LP was the first Stones album made in pieces, as all of the Stones wouldn’t show up on the days they should have been there, in part because of a lot of drug taking, and drug busts and or their court appearances getting in the way. In the end, some very spacey songs did end up on this album, no question about it.

So which of these 2 LPs do you like more? To vote, just click on here: Stones Weekly Poll.

vs.

In last week’s Stones poll we asked: Undercover vs Bridges To Babylon , which album do you like the best? . This poll was neck and neck the entire week long, and in the end, one of the 2 LPs ended up winning by just one single vote.

To see which album did end up on top, just click on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 810 . You can also check out where the 2 albums are in the updated standings at the Stones VS List Page .

Now to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 453, and as usual, we will run 2 polls in one week. For the first poll, we are in the middle of voting on what is the longest multi-part poll question ever asked at our polls - looking for the best acoustic guitar(s) heard in a Rock song, which will run for 7 weeks/parts.

This week’s question is: What's the best acoustic guitar(s) heard in a Rock song? (Part 4 of 7) The first 3 parts had some very tough choices to choose from, and that very same deal will apply for this part, too!

Now a repeat from the first 3 weeks: This multi-part poll is being run in the usual way such polls are run, the top songs chosen from each of the first 6 parts will go up against each other in Part 7. How many songs taken from each part will depend on how the voting turns out, but I’m thinking the top 5 or 6 will make the cut as long as they get at least 5% of the vote each, so we shall see.

Remember, do not pick your favorite song from the list, we aren’t looking for that, we want what you think is the best acoustic guitar played only. To see Part 4’s list and vote in this week’s first Rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question.

In this week’s VS poll the question asks: 'I Just Want to Make Love to You' (by Muddy Waters) vs 'I Just Want to Make Love to You' (by The Stones) vs 'I Just Want to Make Love to You' (by Foghat), which version is best? This 1954 blues song was written by Willie Dixon and first released by Waters, with Dixon on bass. The song was a hit, and reached number four on Billboard magazine's Black Singles chart, titled as “Just Make Love To Me".

The Stones recorded the song, with slightly modified lyrics, for their 1964 debut album, and released the song as the B-side to "Tell Me" in America..... Then in 1972, the group Foghat released a version of "I Just Want to Make Love to You" on their self-titled debut album and also released the song as a single and it reached #83 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their first hit. A second, live version was released on Foghat Live and released as another 45 rpm single. This second single version reached #33 on the Billboard Hot 100.

So which version of this song do you dig more? To cast your vote in this week’s VS poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 2” to vote on this question.

In last week’s first Rock poll we asked: What's the best acoustic guitar(s) heard in a Rock song? (Part 3 of 7) 8 of the choices received 6% of the vote or more, they were: No Expectations - Rolling Stones - Acoustic Slide Brian Jones, Acoustic Rhythm Keith Richards (25.3%); Mrs. Robinson – Simon And Garfunkel – Acoustic Guitar by Paul Simon (12.4%); You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - The Beatles - Acoustic Guitars: John Lennon, George Harrison (12%); Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin - Acoustic Guitar by Jimmy Page (6.7%); Band on the Run - Paul McCartney/Wings - Acoustic Guitars by Paul McCartney and Denny Lane (6.4%), Give a Little Bit – Supertramp - Acoustic 12-string Guitar by Roger Hodgson (6.4%); Jack and Diane – John Mellencamp - Acoustic Guitars by Mick Ronson and John Mellencamp (6%), Last Night - Traveling Wilburys - Acoustic Guitars: B. Dylan/G. Harrison/R. Orbison/T. Petty/J. Lynne (6%).

To see the full, final results, click on: Classic Rock Poll 1, week 452.

Last week in our VS poll we asked: 'Monkey Man' (original by The Rolling Stones) vs 'Apeman' (original by The Kinks), which song is best? I was happy to see that there was nothing close to a landslide win in this poll, in fact, the final results almost could not have been any closer! To see those results now, just click on: Classic Rock VS Poll week 452. You can also check out the final results at the VS results page 2, at the Classic Rock site, just click on: VS Page 2, List Page 10.

We close out this week’s poll post with the Beatles’ poll, where it’s week 206, and the question asks: Of the Beatles albums (UK Releases), which one stands the test of time best? . Pretty simple question, which LP will you go with?

To vote in this week’s Beatles poll, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In last week’s Beatle poll we asked: Which Beatles song listed has the best lyrics? (Part 4 of 4) Well, after 4 weeks of polling, we finally have our answer, and the Beatle song with the best lyric is: “A Day in the Life” (written by John), receiving 7.9% of the votes. Great pick! Second place was a tie between “I Am the Walrus” (written by John) at 7.4%, and “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” (written by John) with 7.4%. Lennon ended up being picked the top writer of the most songs with the best lyrics, with a landslide of 9 of his songs ending up in the top 10!

To see the full, final results from this poll, click on: Beatle’s Weekly Poll – week 205.

Thanks to all of you who take part in our weekly polls each week, and I hope all of you have a great upcoming week ahead!
