Taking a "Stones break" at work this afternoon. One thing I like is that in '89, the Stones added a proper guitar solo after the second verse of this song. I believe that really gave it some liftoff and turned it into the barnburner it is in concert these days. If you look at the stuff from the '81 tour, Start Me Up didn't really light things up like it does today. Dare I say it was kinda "flat." I believe it's because they were playing it like they recorded it. No guitar solo after second verse-which I believe is due to the fact that this song's roots are in reggae. Reggae relies more on repeated riffs that it does on soloing, if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, that's my not so brilliant observation for the day. Carrry on.
