I forget when that rumor actually started, in 1969(??), 1968??
Well, the album Magical Mystery Tour was out for maybe 2 years at the very most, and I heard about a couple of clues that were on that album.
Because of the kind of record player we had at home at the time, I was able to manually play the end of "I Am The Walrus" backwards.
When I clearly heard "Ha-ha Paul is dead....." repeatedly, I felt an overwhelming feeling of terror for a few seconds. (I was young, and those were different times). I actually believed it!
Then I played the end of "Strawberry Fields Forever", flicked the speed to 45, and I heard JL say "I bury Paul". Now we've had a discussion here on that before, I think it was Keno who provided a link, not sure, but on an outtake of SFF, John clearly says "Raspberry Sauce". But on the album it sure sounds like the former, even at 33 speed (cause you know it's there.)
Ah yes, growing up. Thank God Almighty for the music!
