The return of our weekly polls!

Well my friends I’m back - at least for this weekly poll post anyway. We’ll have 3 of our normal 4 weekly polls to vote in this week! Last week was only the second time since 1999 that the weekly polls didn’t run, and the last time that happened, was way back in November of 2002, when the server the domain was on died on the day they were set to run.

Okay, so let’s get started, for week 779 of our Stones poll we will return to our long running series of questions where we rate the artwork for the front cover of a Stones LP. We only have 2 remaining studio albums to rate, so let’s rate one of them this week, here’s the question: Rate the artwork for the front cover of Undercover

Released in 1983, this cover artwork of a nude female dancer was covered with real peel-off stickers on the original vinyl edition, which when removed revealed other different patterned shapes. I guess in all fairness to this cover, you should try to remember the peel-off stickers when you vote, as there was a bit more to this cover than what you now see on the CD version of it today.

To vote in this week’s Stones’ poll, just click here: Stones Weekly Poll.

In the last Stones poll, which ran 2 weeks ago, we finished up asking this series of questions: What is the one song that defines the Stones? (Part 7 of 7). My guess is you already know the outcome to this very interesting and long running question, but if you missed it, here are the results: It was a 2 songs battle in the end, none of the other songs listed had a chance, and “(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction” ended up beating out “Jumpin' Jack Flash” by less than one percentage point - 27.1% to 26.4%. Sorry, I totally disagree with this, JJF is the song that defines the Stones in my mind and nothing will change that, but as far as most Stones fans go, it’s “Satisfaction”, although that would be my second choice, just in my mind it would be a far off second choice. But as I have noted many times in the past about these polls, it don’t matter what I think, what the majority voters think is word here.

There was a 4 way tie for third place, but they only received 4.7% of the vote each, so you can see what those songs were and where the rest on the list landed by clicking on this link: Stones Weekly Poll - week 778 – poll results. I’ll also set up the final results on one of the Stones lists pages in time, when I get around to it.

Now to the Classic Rock Poll, where it’s week 421 and unfortunately, only one poll will run this week as the usual first poll will not happen and only the VS poll will. This is my first day back at the computer, and I’m barely back at it as it is, so no time to work on the several regular rock polls that I have only half put together. But working on the VS poll is pretty easy and fast work, so here is that poll’s question and it will be the lone rock question for this week: 'Can't You See' (original by The Marshall Tucker Band) vs 'Tuesday's Gone' (original by Lynyrd Skynyrd), which song is best? Both of these song were released in 1973, just a few months apart, and they both are slow ballads that deal with guys who lost the girl of their dreams; in both songs the dude is heartbroken over it and plans to board a train to go far away and do other things, like maybe jump off a bridge. Really, 2 very downer songs to say the least, with one sadder than the other. Yet they are both great songs, and both were released on debut southern rock albums for the 2 bands. 'Can't You See’ was written by the lead guitarist of The Marshall Tucker Band, the late Toy Caldwell, who was the one true leader of the group back then (he wrote all the songs for them), and although he normally wasn’t the lead vocalist, he does sing the lead on this song…. For 'Tuesday's Gone', it was written by Ronnie Van Zant, Gary Rossington, and Allen Collins.

As usual there are videos to the songs in the voting booths, just remember, only vote on the songs and not on the videos. To vote in this week’s VS rock poll, click on Classic Rock Poll, and when you get to this page, choose “Poll 1” to vote on this question. The VS poll is usually “Poll 2”, but for this week only, it’s poll 1 that you will need to choose.

In the last Rock poll held 2 weeks ago, for the first question, we asked this Which Rock band/artist was the most ahead of their time? This question went hand in hand with the other questions we had asked here in the last several weeks. The top 3 picks were: The Beatles (9.7%); Pink Floyd (9.2%); and Jimi Hendrix (9%). Very good choices I would say, indeed!

To view the full, final results from this poll, click on the following link: Classic Rock Poll week 420. Or, to just view the Top 10 Songs only from the list, click on Top Ten Lists, Page, 9 (that is, when I get around to adding the results to the page).

In the last VS poll we asked this question: 'Pictures of Lily' (original by The Who) vs 'Photograph' (original by Def Leppard), which song is best? 2 songs about the same thing, to see which one came out on top, just click here: Classic Rock VS Poll week 420 . You can also check out the final results at the Classic Rock’s site’s VS page.

Finally on to the Beatles poll, where it’s week 174, and we continue (or should I say resume) the same multi-part question that we’ve been asking at this poll which is: What is the one song that defines the Beatles? (Part 4 of 5) We now will vote on the final 49 songs left on the list alphabetically for the Fabs, which cover “She Came in Through the Bathroom Window” thru “You Really Got a Hold on Me”. The top 5 songs picked will be voted on again in Part 5, along with the top picks from the first 3 weeks of voting on this question.

To make your pick for this week, just click on: Beatles Weekly Poll.

In the last Beatle poll held 2 weeks ago we asked: What is the one song that defines the Beatles? (Part 3 of 5) Here are the 5 songs that make it on to the final list: Let It Be (14.9%); Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (13.5%), Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (13.5%); Love Me Do (13.3%), Please Please Me (13.3%).

Well somehow I got all of this done! It took well over 2 hours to write this up, as I still can’t sit at the computer, but I can stand above it for about 5 to 10 minutes at a time before I need to lie back down for another 10 minutes or so, so I took a lot of breaks in between typing this out while standing up.

I thank all of you again for your emails and posts here about my health, hopefully by mid-week I will be able to sit at the computer and do all of my work again, and also be able to read the posts here, which I haven’t been able to do either, other than the one that my Jackie posted in. Gosh, thank goodness she moved back in the week before my surgery, I would have been lost these last few weeks without her help. She really was my hero in these last 2 painful weeks…. Now if I would just totally heal!
