Tom Petty has about 20 songs that just plain knock me out everytime I spin 'em. Very tough to choose just one, but I clicked, 'Here Comes My Girl', mainly because that riff is so exceptional, plus the song makes me think of my Baby.
This past Saturday night my Baby, her teenage boys, and yours truly, all played Monopoly in the living room. I had a group mixer spinning on the big stereo, 3 songs from Petty, GNR, Beatles, Stones etc, and Bandit was in his usual spot, two feet in front of one of the big speakers, (the dog loves listening to Rock And Roll music!) just laying there taking it easy. When the first harmonica solo of, 'Last Dance With Mary Jane', started up, the black tuxedo marked lab mix gets to his feet, comes over to the game table with excitement in his eyes, and starts opening his mouth making sounds like he's trying to sing. He looks at me, and I say, "Go ahead. It's got to come out! Sing.". And I swear beginning at that moment, he tried to copy those harmonica solos note for note as a back up singer! Did a good job too. I'm not joking! Really. We laughed like hell and he loved the attention and the song so much he just kept on singing throughout the entire song with a gleem in his eye. After the song he went back to his spot in front of the speaker and stretched out on the floor once again to listen to the rest of the Rock mixer. So, Keno, Bandit casts his vote for 'Last Dance With Mary Jane'. Man, I love that dog!
