Scotch (nsc)

I'm not a scotch drinker, but I have a few questions. Last week I had a glass of Johnny Walker Black Label on the rocks, and I enjoyed it. I went out and bought a bottle of Johnny Walker Gold Label. I didn't try it yet. I didn't splurge on The Blue Label yet. My questions are, is Gold Label good? I figure it must be for that price, and what are other good scotches? Also, why do some people call it scotch, and others call it whiskey?
