You would have to blame or praise the sound engineer (aka the audio engineer) for how the sound on any album turned out, no? That and the time frame when the music was recorded. There's no way any album made in the 1960s should sound as good as one should sound today because of the better equipment used today.

I'll go with the sound heard on "Saint of Me" as their best.
