Dinosaur National Monument is a U.S. National Monument located on the southeast flank of the Uinta Mountains on the border between Colorado and Utah. Most of the monument area is in Colorado, near the town of Dinosaur, in Moffat County, while a small area, the Dinosaur Quarry, is located in Utah, near Jensen, Utah.

The park contains over 800 paleontological sites and has fossils of many different dinosaurs, including Allosaurus, Deinonychus, Abydosaurus, and various sauropods. Its climat is typical of a high desert, with summer temperatures exceedingly hot (average high temperatures in July are over 90 degrees F (32 degrees C) every day), while winter temperatures can be very cold (coldest ever was -29 degrees F/-33 degrees C on Dec 22, 1990). Snowfall is common, avering 41.1 inches a year (104 cm), but the snow melts rapidly in the arid and sunny climates of this area. Rainfall is very low, and the evaporation rate classifies the area as desert, even though the yearly rainfall exceeds 10 inches (290 mm).
