It was definitely Charlie's choice, as long as everyone's telling the truth in interviews. Keith assigned that task to Charlie in the fall of '93, and the *New York Times* even had a short interview with him about the process. But clearly Keith was also fully in favor of the choice. And even though Mick is civil to Darryl on stage, they don't communicate with him like Charlie and Keith do, suggesting to me that Darryl is closer to Keith and that's why Mick decided to use multiple bassists on B2B. It's all part of that weird, complicated politicking--that bad-marriage-like desire to even the score in cutting, trivial ways that end up hurting everybody in the long run. It still remains unfathomable to me how you'd abandon a rhythm section like Charlie Watts and Darryl Jones for machines! Drop the politics and the squabbling and just do what's best for the Stones!
