Marathon is a town in Cortland County, New York. The population was 1,967 at the 2010 census. It's elevation is 1,332 feet (406 meters). The town is in Cortland County, located about 30 miles south of Syracuse in the Southern tier region of New York State. Settled in 1794, the town originally named Harrison was renamed Marathon in 1828. The town hosts the highly anticipated CNY Maple Festival every spring, bringing in thousands of visitors for pancake breakfasts and local craft vendors.
Killawog is a hamlet in Broome County, New York. The community is located along the Tioughnioga River and U.S. Route 11, 2.9 miles (4.7 km) south of Marathon. It's elevation is 1,007 feet (307 meters).
