Black Lake, New York

Black Lake is a lake of glacial origin, located in the northern part of New York. The lake is south of the Saint Lawrence River and parallels the river for many miles. The lake reaches a maximum depth of 40 feet (12 meters). There are at least 25 named islands in the lake. The Mohawk people referred to the lake as Kanientàrhón:tsi, which translates to "lake is black".

Black Lake features a humid continental climate. Summers are sunny and warm, with average daytime highs around 80 F. Winters are cold and snowy with Black Lake receiving an average seasonal snowfall ranging from 70 to 100 inches (177.8 cm to 254.0 cm), thanks to passing lake-effect snows squalls.
