I agree with what you say somewhat. It is ture that Keith has taken over and Ronnie has become somewhat of a sideman. Keith's ego is much bigger than it was so long ago. Keih plays solo's on songs that only Ronnie used to play. I will tell you what I tell everybody. You have to get Lets Spend The night Together on DVD. Ronnie's playing is actually far supieror to Keiths. Ronnie is even louder in the mix on about 75% of the songs. Kieth plays his role as rythym guitarist and Ronnie more of lead. But to a casual listener it is very hard to distinguesh Ronnie from Keith. Ronnie is on the left aand Keith is on the Right channel. They are truely "weaving" back then. Ronnies hands never leave the neck of his guitar. His rythym on Going To A GO GO his aswome, and the riff that he plays on Start Me Up during the chorus is really cool. But the songs that he really shines on is his solo's to YCAGWYW, his rippin lead to Neighbours, his lead to Waiting On A Freind is aswome, he plays it through the whole song. And All Down The Line is amazing jsut to watch the band really rippin it out, between Mick's energy and Keiths aswome rythym, not ot mention Ronnie most excellent lead work.
Bu tin defense of four flicks Ronnie doe splay som egreat licks, its sometimes hard to tell because he and Keith play so well together that it all sounds like its Keith. You have to really pay attention to see who's playing what. Here are a couple of songs that Ronnie plays really well on.
1. Rock Me Baby
2. Worried About you (I love the reggae rythym that he plays beheind Keith)
3. Rocks Off ( Ronnie is palying the Chuck Berry licks during the chorus)
4. I Just Wanna Make Love TO You
5. StarFucker ( Watch Ronnie play this song with much ease, it cool to see him play a tele). He could easily play any of Keiths parts if he eanted to after watching this.
6. Beast Of Burden (Keith and Ronnie play very well together on this one) Almost reminds me of the days of the 81 tour, almost.
I love Keith too, but I just defending Ronnie right now. To be honest I think most people just can't tell whose playing what in alot of stones songs. Th esee Keiths big movement and the fact that they play very similar parts makes everbody think Keith plays it all.
