I'm not going to debate whether or not Rap and Hip Hop are even music. They're styles I don't enjoy whatsoever, but I think EDM is even worse and that's a sub genre of Rock, too. Those people are sampling rock songs, so at the very least they're a sub genre of Rock.
Public Enemy totally fits the bill of who belong sin the HOF. They were successful, no doubt. But success can't be the only factor. Lots of bands have success, but did they do anything to move their cause forward? Public Enemy influenced 50 Cent, Wu Tang Clan, Jay Z and Eminem. Those people have become essentially the biggest forces in their style. Like it or not, that's impact. They deserve to be in the HOF.
Someday LCD Soundsytem and Daft Punk are going to get in there, and if you ask me, that's about the same thing. That "music" sucks balls but there are millions of people that love it, and that's gonna get them in the HOF.
Use my criteria and there's gonna be a whole lot less bands in there. More than half the people in there already would be out.
