Purgatory Resort is a ski resort located in the San Juan Mountains of Southwest Colorado, 25 miles (42 km) north of the town of Durango. It's named after Purgatory Creek, which flows through the base area.

Carved by glaciers thousands of years ago, Purgatory offers a unique blend of steep tree skiing trails and wide-open cruisers with stunning views. Being far away from the front range means the crowds are often minimal compared to the ski resorts along I-70. The resort offers 99 trails and 12 lifts, with over 1,500 skiable acres. The elevation at the summit is 10,822 feet (3,299 meters), with a vertical drop of 2,029 feet (618 meters).

Purgatory Resort has a humid continental climate, closely bordering on a subalpine climate. Average annual snowfall is 260 inches (660 centimeters) per year.
