MINI REVIEW

One more nice early effort by the Boys. But why does ABKCO have to change things? When this was released in America by London Records, the first tune, "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", was the single version (2:57), but now on the CD its been replaced with the drawn out longer version which clocks in at 5 minutes. Since this is the only version you can get on this album now I rated the long version at 6.4,  lower than what I would have rated the single version (7.0).

As far as other songs, "Heart Of Stone", a true classic, rates a 10, and Brian Jones adds his wonderful slide guitar to several tunes, especially on "Little Red Rooster". There is also a lot of great guitar weaving on this LP between Jones and Keith Richards, plus the entire band is really tight on this album!

*Old Ratings vs. New Ratings

The oldest ratings that you see here were from back in 1998 when I first rated the album for this site. Since time does change one's point of view, I decided to listen to and rate the album again, doing so in late 2005. In February, 2018, 20 years after the first ratings were made, I rated all of the songs for a third time. Also note that I did not look at the old ratings from 1998 until after I placed my new ratings here in both 2005 and 2018.
