: : : Grandmaster Flash do a great song called "White Lines", anyone else heard of it?

I first heard it played before the Clash came out on the London Calling tour at the Tower Theater in Phila in 1980. I couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about. And the Clash made me forget all about it. They were the World's Greatest Rock & Roll Band that night.

: : I heard Duran Duran's version of it, which may not count for much!

It counts for NADA. In fact, points will be deducted.
:
: It's a Velvet Underground song, at least the one that the psuedo-hipbecausetheyhungwithAndy Duran Duran covered for their "comeback."

NUH UH!!! You are thinking of "White LIGHT/White Heat" perhaps. A far cooler song NOT covered by Duran Duran. They did "Perfect Day" on their covers album. I think that's a Lou Reed song, not a VU song.

I am saddened and embarrassed that I know this stuff. But I do. I also know who wrote "MacArthur Park"
