: : : Many Stones songs are incredible in live version. However, I believe there are two songs for which
: : : the studio version is far superior to any live
: : : performance. These are Monkey Man and Gimme Shelter.
: : : You might stretch Wild Horses to a third one. Any
: : : comments?

: : And one more which is a zillion times better in the studio version is Beast of Burden.

: Good topic! How about Brown Sugar? This is one of the tightest and powerful rock and roll studio recordings ever, yet it comes off so much like an anthem live. And, it's not because it's a warhorse, as many of them still sound strong, like IORR.

I was going to post just the opposite. Brown Sugar is kind of tired now, but it kicked hard in the early 70s. IORR is garbage, for me, live. I've never understood why the fans enjoy it so much over most of the other tunes. The studio version has a great acoustic/electric intro and Mick really gets into it, while live the intro and guitars are nothing special.
