: : I was watching a documentary about legendary Bluesman Robert Johnson (wrote Love in Vain) and swore I heard him playing Stop Breaking Down. I can't seem to find it credited to him on Exile, or in a book about every stones song. Anyone know anything about this?

: yeah he wrote it OK - on "Robert Johnson : The Complete Recordings" theres two takes of it,entitled "Stop Breaking Down Blues"

: Johnson never had his songs copyrighted in his lifetime, which is why he doesnt get a credit on many cover versions....Woody Payne owned the copyright on "Love In Vain" and as "Stop Breaking Down" was Public Domain, the Stones credited themselves with the composition of their version of "Stop Breaking Down"

ACTUALLY [and for the ONLY time in stones' history, Imight add.] thye sort of fudge it by using the "Trad arr: Jagger,Richards,Wyman,Taylor,Watts" credit..which is unusual since Keef aint on the track AT ALL.....
