All this 10 second talk got me thinking (sorry everyone) that perhaps the one reason I love/worship the Stones is how simple they kept it (in the face of counterparts like Yes, ELP, Moody Blues, Beatles (yes, Beatles!), etc., and even, at times, sad to say, my beloved Who). I realize Keith and many critics and fans have made comments like that before, but it just hit me harder than it usually does.

Seems to me that the formula goes (1) gin up some riff that a blue-gummed, walking-death, elegantly-wasted devil can play over and over for 4 to 5 minutes, (2) play it until the rythym section hits some groove, and (3) scream, shout, slur, and/or mumble some stuff about sex, drugs, and violence until (4) you hit some five or six word chorus that resonates. Cookbook, cut and paste, canned rock n' roll 101. No need to get a graduate degree.

Actually, I wish J/R could get back to that type of blue collar work. From what I've read, heard, and listened to, that formula ain't the one they use anymore and haven't used in years.
