: : I've never considered Brian much of why the Stones are so great.
: Total disagreement there.
Me too. I could not have said it better FB, but still I'll add my 2 cents.
First off, there would not have been any Rolling Stones without Brian Jones. Not only did he come up with the name, but it was Brian who really was the bands first manager. He wrote away to everbody he could to promote the band and get gigs. Then of course his playing, as FB points out. Most of the best of the early hits were in part hits thanks to what Brian was playing. His slide guitar playing was perhaps the most early reason for the Stones success. Up till '69 Keef didn't even know how to play slide and all the slide up till then was Brian's. In fact, rock n roll music had no slide till Brian came along. Brian was the first white man to play slide. Till this day no other rock slide player can do it any better. So not only the Stones but rock music owe a lot to Mr Jones. He was GREAT and in the '60s was one of the main reasons the Stones were great. Mick 'n Keef being the other two reasons.
