I agree his backgrounds were better than leads for most part. His backgrounds were incredible on Sticky Fingers! The last verse of Brown Sugar is just killer. Wild horses and Dead Flowers are excellent too. Rocks Off was great. Things kind of tailed off from there, but his best backgrounds really made those songs sound raw which is what I always liked most about the Stones.

Best leads: Happy and Wanna Hold You.

By the way, I think he orchestrated the "who who" or whatever on Sympathy. Who the hell would think something that goofy would sound so cool?
