Adding my typical outta-left-field oppinion, they should keep the opening act for the sake of tradition. That's right, freakin' tradition.
As far back as you can trace musical performances there have always been opening acts, hell, the Stones even started out as an opening act. If you don't want to see 'em, show up late, but don't crap on a tradition that you don't particularly care for.
The only thing I find wrong with some of the Stone's opening acts, are that some have been already established. The point of having an opening act isn't to bolster ticket sales, but to give a push to an up-n-coming band. Another reson for hireing less established bands is to allow the younger musicians to learn from the veterens how to handle the pressures of touring.
