The boop-tap boop-tap...you hear at the very beginning is Charlie alone on the snare playing the samba beat...when the congas come in the snare is dropped back in the mix and the congas take a more predominant role...but if you check out One Plus One/Sympathy for the Devil, you will see Charlie playing that beat on the snare for quite some time...with the cans on his ears. Not a small feat. That's one beat where the consistency is a must. But again, the only time you really hear Charlie by himself is right at the beginning...Also, even if Charlie didn't play a lick, he was really the only one present who could have made that decision...the beat that is...
