Very interesting. It just seems unlikely to me that the Stones would intentionally steal something from an old blues artist in such a blatant way when even Jagger has publicly revered such figures; wondered why people would prefer Stones' covers to the real thing; and does try to push their music beyond blues, perhaps feeling otherwise that it would be ongoing theft. Not only that, but they gain nothing financially or in any other way from stealing this particular song from Johnson, so what would be the motivation? It's not like it was a big-hit single likely to be recorded and re-recorded, or that it adds much value to their net worth every time a copy of "Exile" is sold.
