Posting Pics – A Step-By-Step Guide

Here is a detailed description of how to post pics and photos on Gasland. I'm hoping that this will encourage a few Gassers to at least try it. It's not nearly as hard as it may seem. If you don't succeed on the first try, don't get discouraged. Neither did I.

Step 1: If you don't have one already, open a Photobucket account: www.photobucket.com, since you will need a online host to use to address where your photos are located online. If you have your own domain/website, then you can just use that instead to keep your photos at, and just post your photos there, and then just link to them at Gasland.

Photobucket is free, easy and only takes a few minutes to use. There are other sites you can use (just Google "image hosting sites") but I'm writing this with Photobucket in mind because it's the one I use.

Step 2: Once you have your Photobucket account set up, upload the photo you want to post, then find it by clicking either "Recent Uploads" or "My Bucket".

Step 3: Point your mouse over your photo. Click "Share".

Step 4: A window will appear with several links. The one to use for Gasland is the "Direct Link" (second one from the top). Copy it by clicking on it. The Direct Link box will briefly turn yellowish to indicate that the link has been copied.

You can now exit Photobucket.

Step 5: Insert your link into the code used for posting pics (I suggest doing this in a Notebook document):

<center><img src=INSERT YOUR IMAGE LINK HERE></center>

Replace the "Insert your image link here" text with your link. Make sure that everything else is still there: ONLY the "Insert your image link here" text should be replaced; make sure also that you aren't inserting any spaces, or your photo won't post.

Step 6: Copy the entire line and paste it into your Gasland post, in the spot where you want your photo to appear. You won't actually see your photo while you're in the message creation box. But once you hit "Post Message" and click the link for your post, you should see your photo.

Here's my "trick of the trade": I created a Notebook document called "Gasland Pics" in which I keep a few samples of the code above. Whenever I want to post a photo, I insert that photo's link into one of them and use that.
