Yes manny, losing a pet can be, well is, hell. After one of our dogs died years ago, I said no more pets, didn't want to deal with another pet dying again, and in time they will. But when my grandson was just 5 he wanted a pet dog or cat, and my kids have always had a way with getting me to change my mind. Then my daughter got a dog while she was living out of state for a year, and came back with him. So we had a dog and a cat. Nova the dog only lived 10 plus years and his loss was so sad for us, but Cheezie's passing was even worst, since we had him for 16 years.
Plus I know what you mean about your bird, too. As a boy my parents always had singing canaries in the house, and yes, even with pet birds, you get close to them too, and it does hurt when they also pass on.
