Actually, it could have been a lot better. Not that it was bad, but it seemed to concentrate too much on his death and killing more so than on his life, especially in the second half of the show. Plus while they went out of their way every time not to show or mention the name of the slimeball pig who killed him, they did in the second half of the program, state his name once, after not stating his name at any other time. Why did they feel they had to do this one time? There was no need for that, we all know the asshole's name and never want to hear or even read his name again. To most decent people, his name today is an obscenity, and nothing more.
Overall, I only learned one new thing from this program (that the pig actually shaked John's son Sean's hand the day of the killing, something I never heard of before, but they did not explain how the piece of trash had access to the then only 5 year old boy).
On a scale of zero to 10, I'd give the special a 4 at best. It was cool that they ran a program on John for his 80th birthday (why didn't any of the other networks do so?), but it was very lacking and again, more about his death (which none of us really wanted to hear about), than about his life.
